The mechanic highlights about, when and how to check your car brakes. The usual indications that denote the time to check your brakes are when there is a: sound emitted in your brake, feel in the brake, vibration effect while applying brakes, or may even hear squealer tab which is on the brake itself. The ideal way to check your brake is by removing or rotating your tires. A brake check in every 6000miles is also advisable. The difference between a real used brake pad and a brand new one is that:• The used one as you eventually observe it will be worn-out.• The ruff braking material fixed on the backing plate material will be less (comparing it with a new one). The brake pad wear on your car could be checked, by carefully observing the brake pad attached near the brake rudder (Disc) .If the brake pad is found to be worn-out (if the brake pad material is not thick) and if you see only the backing plate, then it needs to be replaced.Another important point is, to check if the brake rudder is heavily grooved; if it is heavily grooved then it might need to planed/replaced with new ones. Also check if the brake rudder (disk) is thick or out of round or warped. Warped brake indications are: vibration of brakes, potentially or when the pedal is going up and down as you are braking (this is the tell tale sign for your brake rudder being warped).
