November 29th marks the day of Nissan's triumph, not only as an automaker, but as an eco-friendly automaker. The new Nissan LEAF has won the 2011 European Car of the Year award, the first all-electric vehicle to be chosen for the award.

LEAF is actually a backronym, meaning:

"Leading, Environmentally friendly, Affordable, Family car"

"The jury acknowledged today that the Nissan LEAF is a breakthrough for electric cars. Nissan LEAF is the first EV that can match conventional cars in many respects," said Hakan Matson, head of the jury for the award.

The Nissan LEAF is a five-passenger, five-door hatchback car. It's the first modern, mass-produced all-electric car available from a major manufacturer, and it goes on sale in the United States in December. It's the first of a big push from the Nissan-Renault alliance that could potentially put half a million electric cars on the world's roads in just a few years.

The LEAF from Nissan Motors is also competing for the 2011 North American Car of the Year, with the winner to be announced in January.

To commemorate Nissan's achievement, we've found a few videos to get you ready for the new LEAF. The first video will show you how to set up your home charger. It needs a specially designed charging unit that an electrician must install, but once installed, it's like charging your mobile phone -- just plug it in.

The second video tells you how you can become a new driver of the Nissan LEAF. Purchasing and owning a Nissan LEAF is done through a simple online process, in three simple steps.

The last video is more of a commercial, but highlights the charging process in and outside of your home.
